What We Do

Our Mission

The Astoria Library Friends Association (ALFA) is a volunteer-run non-profit organization that provides resources and funding for community programming beyond the scope of the library’s budget.

Projects & Events

  • ALFA supports the library’s goal of providing services and programs for all ages, from babies to teens and adults. With ALFA’s support, the library hosts a wide variety of programs:

  • Author readings, such as best-selling author Meg Shaffer

  • Library of Things cooking demonstrations

  • UnderstandingAI discussions and workshops

  • Lecture on the hidden history of Chinese Oregonians

  • Documentary films by local filmmaker Ron Walker

  • Dragon Theater Puppets

  • Alex Zerbe The Zaniac Comedy Show

10th Street Stage concert with the Missin’ Strings

Additionally, ALFA purchases items for the library’s collections, including:

  • Read-along picture books with built-in MP3 players

  • Spanish and bilingual books for children

  • Educational toys for Children’s Area

  • Gift books about starting school for incoming kindergarteners

  • Supplies for Art Room @ the Library and Mad Scientists K-5 Club
